Bio

The design sensibility I bring to my work was refined during a Master in Fine Arts program at SUNY New Paltz and while running art galleries in and around New York City. It was only when I looked to build my own jewelry site in 2010 that I fell in love with web design.

Today, I am the Senior Web and Interface Developer at Mount Holyoke College, where I am responsible for improvements to over 130 digital experiences in both open source and proprietary software like Drupal, Wordpress, and SharePoint. I’ve had the opportunity to work on many complex digital enterprise services with cross-functional teams as well as mentor and co-manage five computer science majors. In this position, I apply my love for information architecture, user experience design, content strategy, coding implementation, and interpersonal communication.

To get here, I completed graduate studies in Web Development at Marlboro College Graduate School and trained extensively with a SAAS expert for two years before taking over his white glove hosting company and customer base. Running that business gave me hands-on training with a wide variety of clients, audiences, and online needs. Along with the small team I managed, we designed and built bespoke digital experiences for small to mid-sized organizations and provided technical support. This evolved into my own design company, Artisan Web and Print.

During that time, I also joined the Joomla! community, where I was quickly promoted into leadership roles, allowing me to influence the design and evolution of this second most widely used content management system in the world. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking at the Joomla! World Conferences in 2014 and 2016.

To keep the mind and body in balance, I play bass. As a foodie, l prefer to bake with flours that have flavor. I love rockabilly music and a palate-thrilling craft cocktail.

Recent Experience

  • Senior Web & Interface Developer
    Mount Holyoke College | 2017 - Present

In a nutshell, I provide UI (user interface) design, UX (user experience) research and front-end programming for enterprise software applications that are used by faculty, staff, students and alumnae.

On any given day you'll find me managing a cross-functional team, pitching product enhancements, designing prototypes with Adobe CS / Invision, testing users with tools like Google forms, Loop11 and UserTesting, versioning with GitHub, and implementing with HTML, CSS / SAAS, & Javascript. I think of web application design in terms of modular patterns and frequent the methodologies established by Ethan Marcotte and Brad Frost.

Within Web Services, I co-manage a team of five computer science student programmers and collaborate daily with leadership across Mount Holyoke College to complete projects on time and within budget. My work involves regular scans of 130 software applications to determine which products are in need of a re-design or build and collaborating with stakeholders across campus to initiate these upgrades. My approach ensures a consistent, high-quality user experience and web accessible standards compliance.
