The web has evolved so quickly that web designers often concentrate their sole focus on maintaining technical proficiency and being up to date on new developments in the field. This means a majority of websites DO really cool things, but their look and feel is standard, uninteresting and consequently unmemorable.
When I design for media and web, I combine handmade processes with manipulation in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to render rich textures, feigned depth, and hand fabricated buttons, borders, and backgrounds. These three dimensional compositions add a more tactile, therefore more engaging, interface by which to experience, explore and interpret the content.
As for my design philosophy, I work under the belief that aesthetics share equal importance with function and usability. When I turn to the natural world as a muse, I perceive a highly complex, layered and visually dynamic place. Our biology has evolved over millions of years to perceive and subsequently thrive within these sensually complex environments. By designing with the natural world as my touchstone, I strive to foster a more enriching, engaging and satisfying human experience.
